Report from South Kona

I’ve been missing in action with a cold then sick boys and vog. Now the waves have been going nonstop and after several days of hideous vog that made the cold worse and scratched out all our througt’s . The weather cleared up on Sunday and stayed crystal clear on Monday with fantastic waves and the ocean water warmed way way up. The cold has been hanging on , the ocean water called , so out I went Monday night and had a great time. Very very clear and the water had a soft surface , is a way to explain it , with nice mid size rolling peaks breaking. just over the reef. This morning started off well sunny and a nice new swell brewing up . The waves were crashing all night on the rocks in the morning the coast was full of white water . Steady waves coming in with a big group of waves every half hour or so. Had my boards with me and had a day all planned with a afternoon surf planned.

Kyle woke up sick with the flu after just getting over a bad cold , Christopher has been feeling punky too but just a slight cold and vog related dry and raspy voice. Though he has kept going to school , Kyle missed a couple of days last week and now one this week. Its one of those bug’s that just hangs around even after the party’s over .

At my first stop this morning , that was right across from the beach , the outside reef at Magic Sands was standing up and breaking pretty good . Tempting me to go out and bail on work.
Both plans , working or bailing , went to the wayside when as i pulled out my breaks failed.
Sh*% the line to my right hand side front break , broke and went out just that second. The whole thing tow truck , stuck in town , had to hide my boards on the side of the house and stash some of my equipment there too. They are over in Waikiki right now so they care taker was cool and I’m sure they would be too. The good thing the brakes are under warranty and should be simple to fix
, two of their mechanics were out today was the only problem so I have to wait till tomorrow to get it back. managed to get a couple of rides home and didn’t have to hitchhike . When there is such good waves as this it is a little suspect about those two being sick as many people , myself included tend to be when this good of waves comes around. Though many people have been having the flu and a bad cold is going around too.
