Here is What Else We Did
After just making it out of Lapakahi Village the journey continued north and a cruise thru short visit to Mahukona Beach park . It is the remains of a rail head for unloading sugar to the ships. Now its a small camping area and a crane boat launch with a swimming area among whats left of the cement piers . Fishing off the edge of the parking area with a rustic building that was once the railroad office . From that fun little stop the road kept us heading north as the surrounding turned more and more lush and green with meadows cows munching away in them . In motion with the day light running out the truck with us aboard cruised thru Hawi town with its show main street full of art and coffee houses and various cool little houses . Then shortly there after rolling over hills and down thru lush gorges full of greenery . We made it to the end of the road a little too late to take the hike down to Pololu Valley next trip we will be out sooner because that valley is very cool and we need to descend into it . With some boards , small cooler full of drinks and goodies . Back along the turns and little one lane bridges to Keokea Park a spot that I have seen the turn off for and never had gone down to see . As the day wained on and Chris noticed we were soon needing gas so we didn’t linger there , Now we still were on a quest to find a spot for just a little kite flying and now side tracked down to a little airport that almost is never used . Passing it continued along the dirt road hugging to coast hopefully coming to King Kamehameha ‘s birth place . Threading our way around a hole or two we did find it where it’s always been almost with out fan fair at the end of the dirt road . No where was quite right for the kites so back ti the highway and inspiration . Back to Mahukona for a sunset swim , as we arrived a small boat came in and we watched it get cranked up with the wench as we swam. The water there was very nice and different with the cement pier with paces to jump off and swim, a very local place . With that done a gas stop shortly there after for some gas and along the long desert road home . Rolling along in the dark night back to South Kona and home. Didn’t fly kites or actually stop in Hawi as planned but had fun adventures anyhow now we have plans to go back and maybe even camp up there .
Love & peace Steve Mr Jones
