Report from South Kona

Another Halloween , just a few , three little girls with wings , trick or treaters . The only other ones were the boys and our friend from up Honaunau Dan and his Dad in the whole subdivision . Last year we had the whole crew from across the street but they had to move , and the B street kids , they got tricked into giving candy out at a pre school lol . later they came down and are here hanging out over night . I still set up for the night ,lights and the whole pumpkin thing and a big bowl of candy . We still had fun , the boys carving the pumpkins , one for each . Setting up and going up the first few streets .

The trick that I got I did myself , pulling out my favorite cast iron pan I found a missing tupper wear lid . It had been in the pan between my tortilla warmer flat pan and the skillet , slowly melting into a green swirling mass . Now I need a new one , the plastic has really stuck to the pan . Going into the pours of the metal never to fully come off . Its stuck really stuck . They aren’t expensive , though I have had that one a few years , it was getting just right . I like cast iron and solid metal pans , no non stick for me . It gives off gases that can kill a bird if it is too close to hot pan . Sketchy .

Now today the air cleared up it was amazing how clear it became after all this vog the last few days . The ocean looked like a wall of shinning deep blue water , the horizon sharp and clear all the way to the light blue sky dotted with light fluffy tropical clouds . The ocean is super calm no waves the last two days and hardly any wind at all . The sun was bright and when it hit your skin it was icy hot and sharp .

This is the morning that I spend up in Honaunau doing all my country pools , Its always a mellow time on these mornings . Then down to town for my smoothie and to finish out the day . My of my better clients came out and gave me a bottle of wine like he often does . Now I don’t like to drink much if at all , just a sip and it does effect me very fast just a bit of a glass is enough for me . I would rather have a little spliff out on the deck . I break these out for other people and have a few in a collection right now . On occasion I like to cook with one them with some shrimp or a little vegetable saute .

Tomorrow night the holloween stuff can come out and get ready for the set up . I need a couple of Pumpkins hopefully they won’t run out like they sometimes do . lots of things come by container and do run out sometimes . We do have some pumkins grown here mostly a Japanese type that after picking you let sit a couple of months before eating . Those are great .

Stopped in to make a appt. for a hair cut and ended up getting one . Now I won’t get that Hobo look as my hair gets a bit out of control LOL . Plus you don’t have to comb it much when it’s a bit short . We have had a bit of vog the last couple of days and warm muggy days . Some swell in today waves breaking just on the out side reef at Kahaluu . I didn’t get out today , had to venture up to the pool supply for some parts and that killed along the hair cut my extra time .

Now Friday is Halloween the first time in a few years that it is on a weekend when you don’t have to get up the next day . Even though we don’t get a lot of kids , the boys and their crew are the main group and some have moved but we hope they come in for some treating . So I’m going for the full set up anyway like I like to do . Some lights a pumpkin or two and the lanterns to light up the street luring kids to our evil lair . Then just before midnight I am going to drive the kids up to the old graveyard up the way and have them walk thru it leaving some candy one these two graves of young boys that passed in the thirties . They boys had a thing about stoping there as young kids and liked to visit those two little boys .

So hot and sunny working down by the coast today . There was just a taste of breeze fluttering across the water . It was on of those Mondays when no one was really in the mood to work including me . Did do some and then went home early and hung on the deck with my brother till he had to go catch his flight . We enjoyed some of South Kona’s finest and watched the vog roll in from down at the Volcano . Madame Pele was having a little smoke too . The breeze would come up just enough to cool it down a bit then it would stop and the heavy humid air would return . The energy from the wonderful day down at Pololu valley still hanging in . I stayed in the water there a couple of hours body surfing waves till I slide up on the fine black sand and then floating back out in the water time and time again . The wonderful thing about body surfing is that you are so close to the sea no board just you and the waves . If I wasn’t there with my brother and the boys I might have went completely pure into the water . Thats the purest form of wave riding just you and the waves . Very liberating especially if you are with some one else that you can enjoy the pure freedom with. Wave energy , foam , rolling with slippery wet skin next to you . A secluded deserted beach with the sun going down and no where to be .
