Report from South Kona

Here we go , just before Thanksgiving I thought I would be sick . Having a very sore throat on Tuesday night . Kyle came home with it on Wednesday after school and had it much worse . He was still sick for the holiday . Typical holiday with a turkey and all the stuff . Had some fun using my Potato ricer for the mashed potatoes . It really does make a nice texture and not too wipped up like they can get. Though with the holiday being a Thursday I have to rearrange my schedule . and will end up working Sunday too this week . Really have been working much too much .

So any way a swell has started to come in , starting to get a bigger this afternoon . If i didn’t have so much to do I would have got out today . Tomorrow afternoon will be a chance for me to get out . There was quite a few people out today , since kahaluu was breaking pretty well many surfers were out . They are rumbling the rocks back and forth down at Pebble right now .

Still working on the tape project , some of them are complete wash outs with little to save . Slowly converting and burning to disks . I ‘m think of getting a dvd burner for myself . Chris has one on his , it would just be easier to do from one .

Been back on a Doctor Who thing with season 4 coming in from netflix . Wasting time racing Mario Cart on the Wii again too . So just catching up on all the online fun .

Off for the start of the week . The storm never did make much of a showing , the ocean was still flat as a pancake . I think the only waves came in the middle of the night Saturday and were gone by Sunday morning . Today after doing Monday stops and part of Tuesday , went visiting down at the farm of a friend whose house is almost done . Its a older farm of Coffee and Macadamia nuts . The coffee trees are the older ones some almost 60 years , the farm was let go for quite a while and since they have got it , about two years to get it all cleared out and a house started . Sat out and puffed a little looking out over the red ripping coffee cherries and large green trees . All the coffee here is still hand picked one of the last places that still does that .

So its the big thanksgiving week , we still have to shop and get ready for Thursday . Another Holiday Season . Is here again !

Yuk , I have been working too much ! Then next week we have Thanksgiving and all that going on . With Thursday off I have to get rearranged since I won’t be working on that day , I will have to power out the first part of next week . Plus I have several little repair projects that I have been totally putting off for a long time . LOL

Lots of rain was predicted with the large mass of clouds traveling over the Islands this weekend . The waves had stayed flat though it seamed that something was wanting to come in as far as surf . In town on Saturday it started pouring in the early afternoon , as I made my way home with a stop for some supplies at the market . The rain was falling steady and a bit hard , as I got farther toward the south part of the Island and home the raim thinned out and mostly wasn’t dropping when I got home . We had a couple of down pours but nothing like a big tank filling one . Most of the night I could here lots of surf down on the coast pounding the rocky shores and sending up some plums of white water over the black lava rock .

This morning though expecting a coast full of white water , the ocean is very calm and we have had little or no wind at all . Its a bit humid and over cast with just a light rain for a short time . The forecast is that the clouds are moving off past Kauai and we here on the south side had some rain but not as much as wanted . There is a swell perhaps due later in the week , but the forecast is never perfect .

last night I went on a little cooking thing . Making another Pineapple upside down cake . This time ,since I had wrecked my cast iron skillet with the plastic lid , a little cast iron dutch oven was used . It had higher sides and not the same circumference . It worked pretty good after all , the cake when placed upside down mostly slid out , with a few pieces of pineapple placed back came out well . Then made some Potatoes with carrots baked in the oven with some olive oil and garlic . A big pan of baked Chicken , thighs and legs , would have BBQ .d but had been expecting rain . Plus it was getting late after making the cake and doing a few Mario Cart Races as I went along . lol . For some extra veggies , green beans and mushrooms were placed in a pan and sauteed together .

Off Line / 64 ” This Morning
Hey I’m back , a unnamed person not myself reset and plugged in the router wrong so we were all off line . Well it was strange because for a short time I still could get my lap top online but no other computers . Anyway it’s solved ! I,ve been powering away working and of course the holidays are coming so in a couple of weeks the whole thing starts .

Surf is not happening not a ripple coming in . This time of year we should be getting the first of the North swells coming in and the Hurricane season is about done with little or no action theis year. Its the east coast that gets all the Bad Boy storms . Yesterday as I drove home the rain did come down here and there in heavy torrents almost enough to pull over at one point since the wipers couldn’t even clear the windshield.

This morning the temp was a cold 64 degrees . The sun out and birds chirping away . The ocean flat down the coast with very little white water if any . If there is a lot of white water and currents . Along with big splashes it,s a sign that there may be waves in or arriving soon .

So the video project is coming along . My lap top is way too full and after burning a disk I’m going to have to store or trash the old files . They are just too big . The good part with my little camera , while playing a tape I can snap stills . Now that is another thing , do I save these new mini dv s that I am copying to or just go over them . ??? So one disk is done and I,m ready to do the next . Up to about tape 6 now .

So off now on a new week ! Monday , mostly my easy day , Nice weather though the surf dropped to nothing . Flat as a board not even a ripple going . It was a breezy day and the whole afternoon could have been spent surfing. Just had my smoothie and wheat grass , cruised home and started my project .

All the movies from when the boys were babies. Are on old VHS c taps that are going bad . Some of the footage is lost but not as much so far as i had thought . The first one had gone almost completely , I think I’ll rewind it back and forth a couple of times just to see if it will play . Second and third tapes had most of it all still playing . What i have to do is play them in the old cam corder into my camera that will put them on mini dv . Then they can be played into I Movie . It’s a bit of a hassle , the good part is it’s being saved and will last longer than the tapes have . So today I got two of the tapes done and there is about maybe 40 total . Each one 30 minutes or less , also minus the bad spots . Now that i have the process going and all the hook ups set , things should go faster . I am keeping them as uncut as possible there was a couple of less then a second bits that I left out . One good thing is that when the mini dv is played into i Movie it separates out the bad bits as it makes clips that can be assembled and made into one disc. I may take little clips from here and there and remix them but for now just the uncut version . Plus what fun I can have of all this baby vid of the boys . LOL LOL .
