Today was exciting I got at hair cut at 10a , then caught up the couple of stops I ditched on Monday . Finished up with a kind of easy day speeding along in my slow kind of way . lol One thing I forgot is the Major leaps into the air yesterday of all the whales out by the horizon . Flinging themselves out of the water almost a full body length then crashing back down with a explosion of white water . One after another up and splash , up and splash .
Whats Next , Steve
You know the best day to just bail out is Monday , Like the song says , Monday Monday I don’t like Monday that’s the day slavery begins . It’s usually the day it all starts blah blah blah . Spring break is on schools out this is my easy day most of the time . With the sun out I thought either a trip North or South , bail out and take off . I haven’t been to Kiholo bay for years , it’s to the north down a road over the lava fields dotted with low Kiawe Trees and various scrub bushes . A long black sand beach emerges at the end of the gravel road then winds along the shore between the trees and the sand . Backed right up to the sand and dropped the tail gate tossed out a couple of chairs and popped up a umbrella . Slide out the cooler stocked a bit with drinks , Mexican sodas and gator aid , sandwich stuff and some chips . After hanging out and checking the kite surfers setting up to go out . Ok we liked them the kites are bigger and different then the ones we fly having bladders that fill with air instead of baffles like on the land kites we have . Strolled along the beach to the south where there is a nice little cove jumping in for a swim in the still cool water . Then back for lunch and a walk now to the north where back just a bit in the trees . A opening in the lava looks down in to a unground pool of mostly fresh water . Cold cold as can be the water is clear and goes back in to a cave that opens into a sky light . A little wooden set of stairs leads down into the pool of water and with a very brisk dip you are in . Swimming back thru the tunnel to the sky light and back out and back into the warm sun . Back to the wide black sand beach for some kite flying of our own in the steady perfect breeze of the afternoon before the voyage home .
Warmth and Sunshine , Steve
The palm tree moved back and forth in the breeze most of the morning . Viewed on the Web Cam , I have it down on yahoo messenger but the others will not recognize the camera and work . I would like to find a way to have it show on the website . That’s what I did most of the morning watching the Vog roll back in as the winds start to change direction with the spring time starting and the weather flows more from the south bringing warmer more humid air. Though the water is still very cool down around 75 or so .
Doing a trash run up to the transfer station , that now has several recycling bins , slowing the flow of trash to the land fill . Buzz from there up to Fujihara store for a snack and a drink then down the hill to Hookena Beach . Sunday crowd , warm sand , mostly flat and calm water . Chilly dip for a little splash around and some sand castle making . After a small wave caused some wall failures fill a nice little pool we stuck Chris in and buried him . Making those sand sculptures with the watery sand , letting it drip down , making what resembles soft serve ice cream in a cone . That swirly pile that comes to a point . Washing off the sand at Hookena in the warm if not hot water that comes down a long pipe that runs the whole way down the road fom the Hwy . Heating to sometimes scalding temps on the way down .
Sitting in Limbo , Steve
Hanging out here late at night after a few Lattes this evening . lol What been happening , not that much , Calm seas no surf , not much action there , the weather has gone from clear to cloudy and back . Over all a bit dry , the tank is starting to skim the bottom , a good down fall always arrives in time . Did the Aloha Chinese BBQ last night for take out . Four items and you get another free , we ended up with a lot of stuff : ) . Noodles , Shrimp and Pea pods , Kung Pao Chicken , Shrimp with Vegtables , Soyu Chicken .
The boys are out for spring break , no school all next week , days of sloth ahead . Thinking of ditching out on Monday , maybe a trip down to hike out to the sand dunes and look for the foot prints of Hawaiians caught long ago in a Cinder Cone eruption that covered the area in ash as they passed thru . There is some controversy now as to their age , but its still a fun hike along a trail across a lava desert . Ending up amoug some sand dunes dotted with some trees , as I remember along the base . Haven’t been out
After all the clouds and light rain of yesterday , this morning was back to Sunny and Crystal Clear . The Whales have been very active and loud at night , it’s getting to the time they will leave back to the North to Alaska . The water has been very cool the last times that I was in this weekend , I think once the water warms a bit they will head out for the long voyage .
Traveling about around Honaunau this morning , the Coffee has gone into full flower . White fragrant flowers on the dark green branches loaded with new growth . Kona snow it’s called by the Old Time Coffee farmers . Jumping out of the truck while driving down the bumpy old Rock Bottom Road , the perfume of the sweet flowers filled the air . It’s surprising how sweet and nice they smell , just lasting a few days then leaving a coffee cherry to grow in their place .
Wednesday afternoons I pick up the boys since they get out early and have them help me in the afternoon . We take a swim after wards or fly the kites , something like that today we had the kites out . The boys try to get to the game shop or something but I side track them with a smoothie . Then just force them to have fun . lol Had all the kites out in the gusty wind down on the ball fields behind the public pool down at the old airport park . It was till the 70s the airport for Kona , now being way way close to town it having a nice long sand beach became a park with lots of parking . Plus it’s fun to cruise since it is a long runway right next to the beach . We had quite a gathering once the kites came out , kids drifting up from several directions . Big Blue the biggest kite went up first , it turned out a bit to gusty and the pull being really strong we landed that one and sent up the Bone Breaker . That one was just about right speeding around and pulling strong enough to lay back when zipping across the sky line . The little kite , Mr Zippy had to be set up for the small crowd wanting a chance . lol . Chris flew for the first time since the South Point incident , he has a fast wild style that got the kids going .
Chris also went to try out for a play at the Kona Theater , To Kill a Mocking Bird is the play . He hasn’t been in one and read for the part of Dill but they had him also read for the part of the son . He came home and had fun doing it , what if they call him back . wow .
Thanks for the Pinch , Steve
