Amid the crashing waves and bright as day full moon. The New Years , spent on the shore by Keei beach on the rocks at the cliff jump . The waves were stupendous smashing with powerful white plums of water over the rocks . We arrived down there just before sunset and did get the spot we wanted , there were a few revelers about and many cars went by toward the beach .Four kids all 14 , Dewey the dig , BBQ , the new one Ute got me for Christmas , Cooler with steaks and hot dogs , chips , bunch of sodas . A array of fireworks , Chinese style New Years , sparklers and small explosives , after about 9 pm till 2 am is the legal time anyway that they can be lite off . Started off with sparklers and progressed up to the big string that Kyle lite off just at Midnight .
The dog ran around and we started off with a quick set up ,lighting of the BBQ , letting the kids plow thru a couple of bags of chips we started off the festivities . Watching the big fire from the group of people just down from us . The full moon started to come up over the island . Grilled up the steaks and we had them on big rolls , a couple of hotdogs here and there and made some coffees . Two more people , Christine the Mom of one of the kids and her friend Greg came down about 11pm and started of a second wind of fun . Bringing some more food and new life into the group . They had a little fire wood and the kids got a little pile of it going . We all hung out eating and watching sparks fly from little fireworks tossed and had fun till about 130am to start out the New Year .
First report of the year , Love Steve and Ute
Six AM and they boys were up and ready to go !!!! The moon was so full there was not much sleeping done the night before Chris went out about 11 pm Kyle was up and down all night long, myself I was up also with that moon so bright . A lot of wrapping was done on Christmas eve and almost though that a cold was coming on. Finally the boys went out so ” Santa could arrive ” they didn’t stay out long it was close. When we got up they little plate of cookies was eat,n and the cup of milk gone and a new bike for Chris and many packages were around the tree. . There was a little bit of a frenzy at first , though they did slow down and had a nice long morning of presents. made some Lattes and baked a little pan of sweet rolls played some new video games and Chris set up his new printer.
I did buy one nice thing for myself a new video ipod, I know I’m bad but its so cool, my old one will still be for work it will be a little while before the new one will become the work model.
The boys made out pretty good , I admit that they are spoiled, though Kyle didn’t get his motorcycle . He did bet a nice collection of video games and a new stereo . Plus they received many other nice little things , like a little multi purpose pocket knife , and other fun stuff , footballs , and Chris got a cell phone from his Grandma.
A giant ham for dinner with baked potatoes salad with starfruit and steamed green beans and a homemade corn chowder, with sparkling cider a pineapple ginger sauce for the ham. Desert apple pie with wiped cream coffee and tea. It was a simple dinner but fun to make , though there is a lot of ham left over.
I am very tired and full ready for bed the video games are still beeping and zapping but its time for one of the new dvd’s , The latest Pirates of the Caribbean at worlds end and the Harry Potter Order of the Phoenix, I know they are very spoiled.
Happiness and Joy , Steve
Middle of the week and getting home just after sunset , then making dinner feeding the kids doing laundry , wow how exciting . Now that they are in bed , that can be a battle ,
and I have a minute or two to myself. There is not much going on , the weather has been a little overcast and no surf at all, just working and laying low from all the crazy drivers.
I miss the old days when there was not so many people and we still had the old funky Kainaliu Christmas parade. It lasted only about 30 minutes and they would close the Hwy down for it. The whole thing was fun and very very funky with the high point being Santa on the flat bed truck hurling candy at the crowd and kids with all their bags getting all they could. It stopped a couple of years ago after being around since I think the 50s because the insurance got expensive and the traffic has increased. Many of the new comers complained about the road stoppage and it finally was cancelled. The kids went to everyone of the parades even infants they went. ( they had to be shielded from all the flying candy as babies
) Almost anyone could be in the parade it was just a home town affair with the high school band and a couple of cars with lights on , maybe a fire engine and some dogs with hats on.
Thats enough for tonight Steve
